Purpose for this online space
Writing is one of my favorite ways to process. It is also one of my favorite ways to organize. Folks often tell me to write because they like to read my writing, but honestly as a stay at home mom, all I want to do is put my feet up and watch reruns of The Great British Bakeoff, amirite?
However, I've been itching to write for a while and I think it is time to flex this (these?) muscle(s) again.
My son is starting Kindergarten, and thanks to the 'Rona, I will be homeschooling this year in combination with sending him to a teeny, tiny, local school start-up school of about eight kids total. When I was looking into curriculums, I decided not to just go all in with one publisher. Instead I am piece-milling some things together. A few the resources were from Usborne Publishers. Specifically their Wipe-Clean books and their Parent and Child First Reading Library.
In years past I have always considered becoming a children's book consultant, but have resisted because every time a direct marketer targets me 12,000 puppies die (obviously this is just an estimate). However, when I looked into becoming a consultant with Usborne, the only things I had to do were buy a discounted box of books, and, well, that's it. Becoming a consultant allowed me to also get a percentage of my own personal sales. If I am going to homeschool, I'd love to keep as much money as I can, so I have more to pour into additional resources, or more to buy ice cream with, or margaritas. I digress.
My sincere desire is to just be a good resource for folks looking for quality books for their children, grandchildren, classrooms, or schools. I am not counting on this for income, just fun! I will not try to sell you things that I do not like, would not buy, well, really anything at all.
Rather, I will share with you the resources I have acquired, and share with you what has worked well and was worth the money.
I will always have an active link on my page, where you can go and directly buy books through me. I do get a percentage of that sale. If you are interested in a specific book, but cannot afford it, let me know! I would love to help you out.
Also, if you love books, but don't love to pay for them, there are great "hostess rewards" for hosting book "parties." I will not be doing traditional Facebook parties, it is just not my jam. Alternatively, I've decided to use this site as a way to help people through the different categories of books Usborne has, the ones I love, and recommendations I have for purchasing. If you would like to host a "party" and earn free books, I will create a link for you to earn hostess rewards for a week. I will draft an e-mail you can send to your friends and family members to my recommendations page. My plan is to have short clips and reviews for people to sort through. This way they can access the information whenever it is best for them, no one is giving or getting a sales pitch.
If you would like recommendations for your specific child, school or classroom, please send me a message!
Additionally, if you can't afford books (please message me about this first of all), you can always create a login and create a wishlist! This way you can remember the books you want when you do get a little extra cash, OR even better, you can share it with grandmas who love to buy their grand-babies gifts! I am sure I will need to work out kinks in my method here as I go, but here is to beginnings!
Also, if you are interested in buying books for your kids, but don't know where to start, I can create a wishlist for you! I have done that a few times and people enjoy shopping from a list that is handpicked for them.
Happy reading!
